We continue HRW 2021 with a visit to one of the hidden gems in the Woodlands, Johnny’s Italian Steak House. Located in the Crowne Plaza hotel, Johnny’s is a moderately priced steak house that delivers a premium experience. Executive Chef Brittany Briden has created some delicious options for HRW. Here’s what we sampled:
Steak Diavolo – Chef Brittany presents a perfectly medium rare top sirloin served with jumbo shrimp, spicy tomato sauce and balsamic drizzle. This is a steak with a decidedly Italian twist; the spicy tomato sauce and fresh veggies are the perfect foil to the rich, beefy bite of steak. The jumbo shrimp add yet another dimension of flavor. If you’re a surf ‘n’ turf fan, don’t miss this one.
Scallops and Arugula Risotto – This was our favorite dish; elegantly simple and satisfying. Seared scallops, lemon butter, cherry tomatoes, arugula and shaved asiago cheese, served over parmesan cheese risotto. The skillfully executed risotto (not an easy task) formed a rich, creamy foundation for the expertly seared scallops, the peppery arugula, and the bright, acidic tomatoes. The shaved asiago and smoothly tangy lemon butter complete this dish.
Créme Brûlée – A classic steakhouse needs classic desserts, and what is more classic than Créme Brûlée? Vanilla bean custard, expertly brûléed, with fresh berries perched atop. Execution is everything with this dessert, and the kitchen was up to the task.
We really enjoyed the dishes presented by Chef Brittany and Johnny’s Italian Steak House for Houston Restaurant Weeks. Don’t pass up this hidden gem when making your HRW plans.
