Mozambik, the hot South African concept that is adjacent to the Woodlands Mall, has begun its brunch offering. Being fans of Chef Macey Maples’s cuisine, we were anxious to check out the new brunch offering.
As we’ve come to expect from Mozambik, the food is definitely outside the box, but comfortably so. Flavor profiles are unique but compatible with Texas palates. Presentation isn’t forgotten here; the dishes are attractive as well as tasty. This is a restaurant where you can expect both your foodie and non-foodie friends to enjoy something unique and different.
We weren’t able to sample the extensive brunch offering; here are our favorites from the first pass through the menu. Expect an update as we work our way through the menu… ah, the sacrifices we make for our readers.
Chicken and Pancakes Stack
A dramatic breakfast favorite; a tower of fried chicken, bacon, and pancakes, crowned with a sunny side up egg and finished with Mozambik’s addictive sticky toffee drizzle.
Moz Avo & Toast
French bread toast with garlic butter, avocado, goat cheese, kale, and heirloom baby tomatoes dressed with peppadew herb dressing and peppadew coulis. Mozambik’s spin on avocado toast is bursting with swagger and flavor.
Shrimp & Grits
Fluffy cheese grits sautéed with richly savory Chourico sausage. Large shrimp cooked in peri peri lemon butter. A superbly conceived dish; perhaps the most memorable rendition of this southern classic in our area.
South African Koeksisters
A traditional South African pastry. Glazed with a lemon ginger syrup, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, and presented with house chocolate sauce and sticky toffee sauce. (ProTip: Go with the sticky toffee sauce.)
