Birria Tacos have become the new hotness in the Mexican food scene. Originally a humble meal prepared for field workers, this delicious take on tacos has rocketed to the forefront of the culinary scene in Texas. Four years ago you rarely saw birria on any menus around town; now entire restaurants are popping up devoted to this delicious dish. Some do it well. Others just go through the motions.
We’re happy to report that Black Walnut Cafe, the upscale fast casual restaurant group that started here in the Woodlands, will be adding Birria Tacos to their menu in February, 2022. And these aren’t just any Birria tacos.
The creation of Chef Austin Simmons (the executive chef who oversees all culinary creations at Tris, Cureight, The Kitchen, and Black Walnut) these tacos feature the deep, rich flavors of old Mexico, but brought into the 21st century. The necessary consommé is bright, flavorful, and tangy, and is a superb contrast to the bold, beefy swagger of the tacos.
Served with the Chef’s take on Mexican Street Corn, we’re predicting this dish to be incredibly popular when it rolls out across the Black Walnut group of restaurants next month.
