Bosscat Kitchen, the highly anticipated concept from the West Coast via Houston, has opened in the Woodlands. Bosscat is locate on Market Street right by Tiffany’s. They are a restaurant and bar with a focus on both whiskeys and pork; both figure prominently on the nicely curated menus.
The Space
The old Berryhill space has been completely gutted and reimagined; the result is a cozy, inviting space that’s welcoming for a relaxing evening after a day’s work. The restaurant is divided into several areas, from the Whiskey Room for private events to the intimate Library to the Champagne Room (another private space) to the roomy Dining Room. We love the vibe of the restaurant, especially as day turns into evening and the lights come out on Market Street. (Click or tap on any image to enlarge)
The Food
The food at Bosscat is unabashedly American. The full menu features a nice selection of starters, soups, salads, sandwiches, and mains, with some enticing desserts for those who saved room. We made a quick pass through the menu and sampled a handful of dishes. (Click or tap on any image to enlarge.)
We really enjoyed the Pig Candy, a playful name that turns out to be extremely accurate. Chunks of pork belly are fried and drenched in Rye whiskey caramel, sprinkled with toasted sesame, then topped with the house kimchi. The result is a sweet dish with a bit of a zing, and it’s a bite we’ll be craving every time we think about it.
At happy hour, the Butter Burger is a standout. For $6 you receive two smashed patties, cheddar cheese and caramelized onions al on a quality bun. The flavor of the beef is the star here; this is an excellent burger with no distractions from the quality ingredients.
The Pulled Pork Hush Puppies were another popular choice. Cornbread battered pulled pork is deep fried, then served with South Carolina barbecue mustard. The flavors are subtle and restrained, and the mustard sauce gives it quite a kick.
Service was competent and friendly; the staff was well trained, and was quick to respond to any requests.
We enjoyed our first visit to Bosscat Kitchen, and look forward to returning soon.
