UPDATE: Southern Star has announced their closing.

We’re sad to report that it appears that Southern Star Brewing Company, the beloved Conroe-based brewery, will be closing their doors for good.
Sources close to the brewery report that they’re ending operations at the end of June. In a recent post, the Run in Texas Facebook page announced that they have been informed by the GM of Southern Star Brewery about this sad turn of events.

Southern Star Brewing in Conroe, Texas, is one of the pioneers of the Texas craft beer movement and a favorite gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. Founded in 2008, the brewery became the first craft brewery in Texas to package its beer in cans, helping redefine how Texans enjoyed independent beer. Known for popular brews like Bombshell Blonde and Buried Hatchet Stout, Southern Star has built a reputation for approachable, flavorful beers that reflect the laid-back spirit of Southeast Texas.

The brewery sits on more than 13 wooded acres north of downtown Conroe and features a large taproom overlooking the brewing floor, an outdoor biergarten, live music stage, food service, and space for community events. Its atmosphere combines rustic Texas charm with a relaxed social vibe, making it popular for concerts, weekend gatherings, brewery tours, and family-friendly outings. Dogs are welcome outdoors, and the spacious grounds create a festival-like environment on busy weekends.
Southern Star represents both Conroe’s growing craft culture and the independent character of Texas brewing, blending innovation, hospitality, and local pride into a destination that continues to attract beer enthusiasts from across the region.

Very sad news. Craft Breweries in Texas are all fighting for survival. Younger generations dont seem to be as interested in the Craft Beer movement and people like me are older and just drink less than we used to. It makes it even harder on breweries when they are geographically distant and finding designated drivers or taking Ubers so far is a challenge. Our food truck spent many great times serving the amazing folks that frequented Southern Star and we will always cherish the memories. RIP
