This popular Houston bakery has ventured north to CityPlace at Springwoods Village, and has expanded from their roots of award-winning pastries, breads, and bistro cuisine. Now sporting a full bar, Common Bond is a happy hour destination as well as a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Our sneak peek at the new menu was filled with pleasant surprises, like the spicy Nashville Hot Fried Shrimp and the savory Charcuterie Baguette. Beautiful small cakes perfect for special events; call ahead or pick up one that’s already ready.
About their Burgers
The bun’s the thing at this high-end local bakery group, and Common Bond’s is a solid base for a petite, tasty burger. The pain de mie bun is stacked with a hand-formed patty, melty gruyère and aged white cheddar, and the result is a manageable burger that’s nicely executed.
About Brunch
Brunch at Common Bond should definitely include their superb pastries.
We’re big fans of Kouign Amann; the extremely labor-intensive French pastry that features thin layers of pastry dough, butter, sugar, and a touch of salt. And Common Bond’s is among the best. Dense, sweet but not cloying, buttery, with a light crunch and a remarkable texture, this is my benchmark for this queen of pastries.
The Spiced Pear and Earl Grey scone was simply delicious. The flavor of the spice and the pear were well balanced, and the delicate Earl Grey glaze provided a very British counterpoint. This is a sophisticated scone you won’t run across anywhere else.

A compact bar and a selection of well-priced small plates makes Common Bond a great spot to grab a bite after work.
