Nashville-style Hot Chicken is the thing at The Cookshack, the local outlet of the Fort Worth-based fast casual chain. This isn’t fast food (when we’re wrong, we’re wrong); it’s more of an updated Texas ice house serving hot chicken, barbecue ribs, salads, and more. Chicken is front and center, in your choice of five heat levels (via the cooking oil, not generic hot sauce.) The kitchen displays a deft touch; both the chicken and the crust were nicely seasoned; even the zero heat version was wonderfully moist and flavorful. Outstanding sweet potato fries (waffle cut and spiced with cinnamon) are the perfect side. Don’t pass up the ribs; the huge half rack is generously sauced and is sublimely tender; the ribs can pack some heat if you prefer. Very friendly, professional service. Full bar.
