UPDATE: They’re open, and we check them out.
There’s a new concept coming to the former Herb ‘n’ Beet location on Sawdust Road. The location has been vacant for months, and we’re happy to see another restaurant coming to the Woodlands Area, especially featuring a local chef.
From the Chef behind Uncle Charlie’s Kitchen
Called Pirate’s Paradise, it’s the new project from J. C. Torres, the man behind Uncle Charlie’s Kitchen, formerly on Rankin Road. Pirate’s Paradise is expected to be a pirate-themed restaurant, bringing a touch of whimsy to the popular commercial area on the southern border of the Woodlands.
There’s a rumor that the building will be painted bright blue; it certainly won’t be hard to miss if this is the case.
The Concept
Pirate’s Paradise is is a family-friendly restaurant with a pirate theme. Don’t expect scantily-clad wenches or lots of bawdy language; the goal is to create an environment for families, and one where single moms will feel safe bringing their kids. In this setting the kitchen will turn out well priced American food, with an emphasis on seafood and burgers.
The Food
Little is known at this point about the food which will be served at Pirate’s Paradise. Torres is known for big portions of creative, casual comfort food, and he posted some dishes on social media in the announcement. What we’re seeing looks unique, hearty, and unlike anything we’ve seen from local chefs. We’re excited to check out what Chef Torres has in mind.
Here are some photos from social media in the announcement of Pirate’s Paradise.
From the Chef behind Uncle Charlie’s Kitchen
Uncle Charlie’s Kitchen, a previous project of Chef Torres, was known for big, well priced burgers, creative breakfast offerings, grilled fish, and big salads. Here are some examples of the dishes at Uncle Charlie’s Kitchen:
One of the more interesting offerings there was The Paco, a breakfast taco wrapped in a pancake. No word if it will make the transition to the new menu, but we’re hopeful.
We’re looking forward to learning more about what’s coming from this creative chef; we’ll keep you informed as we find out more.
