Our criteria is simple: Who makes the most delicious pizza? Our guide is based around the Woodlands, but we’ll venture outside the immediate area if the food is worth the drive… and we found some that is.

This long-time Woodlands standby serves big New York-style pizzas to hungry patrons who’ve been visiting for years. Calzones and pastas are also offered. The environment is basic but comfortable; no frills, but a great place to grab a pizza. Brother’s was the winner of our 2022 Pizza Shootout.

Jackpot Pizza

Pizza lovers in the know rave about Jackpot Pizza. This unassuming strip center location turns out well conceived gourmet pizzas made from a variety of top quality ingredients. Their standard pizzas are very good, but the creativity of the kitchen shines in their gourmet pizzas. Jackpot owner Mary Ann Ledesma sweats the details; her team shreds blocks of cheese daily rather than using a preshredded product, and you can taste the difference. Gluten free and cauliflower crust available; those avoiding gluten, or on a keto diet can rejoice; it’s a far better pizza than you find in overpriced “gluten free eateries”.

Locals keep talking about this hidden gem located in a tiny strip center on Glen Loch. Take out or delivery are your two options, and you’ll be glad you did. Thin crust is the specialty, with hand-tossed crust, plentiful real cheese, and good quality toppings. Savvy customers jump on the bargain carry out special; a one-topping extra-large for $10. Calzones, subs, and salads round out the offering. There’s no seating at Pizza Tonight; you don’t have to take your pizza home, but you can’t eat it there.

RC’s NYC Pizza & Pasta serves honest-to-Vito New York street pizza, either traditional (cheese only) or with your choice of toppings. They’re serious about pizza: RC himself travels around the nation competing against the best pizza makers in the country, and has repeatedly brought home the hardware.

RC’s goes beyond pizza, with outstanding wings, delicious calzones, and great plated entrees. This isn’t your average pizza spot, which is why it earned a spot on our list.

Russo’s New York Pizzeria walks a very tricky line between a pizza place that kids will like and one that foodie parents will find interesting. The traditional options are all here, including a killer pepperoni option with your choice of flat or cupped pepperoni (we choose both, naturally), so the kids will find lots to love. But parents wanting something that’s more uniquely Italian will discover plenty of options, from the variety of Tuscan-style pizzas (we’re crazy about the Prosciutto & Fig), pastas, and unique offerings not often on the menu at the competition. The interior is both family-friendly and casually upscale; you can actually get out of the house and enjoy pizza and a glass of wine. Friendly, professional staff, lots of easy free parking.

Refreshing corporate culture (employees have stock options!) and fanatical dedication to quality (staff makes, tastes, and judges pizzas every week) makes this a pizza place to check out. As predicted, Zalat’s strong offering has been consistently delivered and has earned them a coveted spot on our “Best” list.

Freshly cut toppings on a Chicago-style thin crust (yes, that’s a thing) are the draw at this local chain of pizza spots. From the original location, Crust has spread out all over the Woodlands area, bringing its popular gourmet pizzas, big salads, and Italian entrees to hungry families. Each Crust location has a different feel, but all share the same focus on fresh ingredients (dough is made several times a day, and never frozen or refrigerated) and great customer service.

Jet’s Pizza – Kuykendahl

Detroit-style pizza is a big thing right now, and Jet’s Pizza are the experts, having been offering it since the 1970’s. Our western Jet’s, located on Kuykendahl Road, serves an excellent rendition of the thick pillowy Detroit crust, complete with crispy edges on every piece. Jet’s sauce is nicely balanced and gently tangy. Texans may not be familiar with Detroit-style pizza, and that needs to change. We generally don’t recommend chain pizza places, but we’re happy to make an exception for Jet’s. We think you’ll like it.

This Seattle-based pizza chain brings a new approach to making pizza. There are no family-sized pies; all the thin crust artisan pies are personal (either small or medium). The hungry pizzaphile travels down the assembly line, selecting sauces, cheeses, and toppings. Pick all you want; the price doesn’t change.

The result can be thin or an inch thick, and goes right into Mod’s custom pizza oven. In a few minutes, the pizza you designed is ready to devour. Those of you who’ve given up on pizza chains could be pleasantly surprised by Mod; its a solid choice, especially if everyone wants something different.

Now the concept has taken root in the Woodlands, and local residents are learning what the fuss is about. From housemade pastas to wood fired pizzas to expertly crafted entrees, North Italia brings mom-and-pop craftsmanship together with polished service and a capacious, beautiful room. Extensive bar, lots of seating overlooking the Waterway. Don’t write this one off just because it’s part of a national chain.
